James Patrick Schumacher, 52, beloved son of Charlotte Edgar Schumacher and the late Leonard J. Schumacher, died early Sunday morning, March 29, 2009, at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.
Patrick was born March 16, 1957, in Cape Girardeau. He studied horticulture at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Patrick was an avid bicyclist who rode his 10-speed bike from Cape Girardeau to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, at age 14. Accompanied by his brother, Bob, the teenagers carried camping gear on their bikes, staying in national parks on their journey across America. Their sister, Sue, met them in Canada.
Schumacher was a talented entrepreneur. In Houston he founded Growing Green, a landscaping business. Schumacher also rehabbed vintage brick homes in St. Louis city and was a familiar antique dealer at country auctions.
Schumacher was a longtime employee of Southwestern Bell and AT&T, transferring to St. Louis from Houston with a promotion to management.
A private memorial was held with Houston Pastor Carlos Quintanilla for the family at Shadow Rest Ministries, north of Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his mother; a sister, Sue (Bruce) Gibson; a brother, Gene (Suzanne); a sister, Mary (Mike) Brooks; a brother, Bob; and a sister, Aubre Edgar.

St. Louis Cremation handled the arrangements.
