Library cancels scrapbooking club until June

The Cape Girardeau Public Library Scrapbooking Club meetings have been canceled for April and May. The next scheduled meeting is at 10 a.m. June 13.

Southeast Missourian continues book series

As part of its ongoing book series, "Heartland Heroes to Remember," Concord Publishing is searching for photos, stories and other memorabilia of Korean War and Vietnam War veterans. This tribute will be published in a coffee-table, pictorial book suitable for gift-giving. Bring original photos, memories or memorabilia of veterans from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 28, May 12, 26 to the Scott County Signal in Chaffee; from 9 a.m. to noon April 22, May 6, 27 to the Banner Press office in Marble Hill where project coordinator Ashley Aufdenberg will scan photos and meet with contributors who would like to share their memories or honor the memories of those who did not return. Aufdenberg will be available by appointment at the Southeast Missourian Broadway location. Dogwood-Azalea Festival includes home, garden tours

The 41st annual Dogwood-Azalea Festival, Thursday to April 19, includes home and garden tours by the Mississippi County Historical Society. The home and garden tour will be only held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Home and garden tour tickets can be purchased at the Mississippi County Historical Society's Moore Home, 403 N. Main St., Charleston, Mo., on tour dates.

Summer camp sign ups

Fitness Plus is taking priority registration now (for Fitness Plus members) for summer camps for children ages 7 to 12, held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 1 to 5, with additional sessions going through July 24. Open registration begins Wednesday. Kids Plus child care services are also available before and after camp. There is a Peewee Camp, a half-day camp for children ages 3 to 6, that meets from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday to Friday. Register soon for anger management classes

University of Missouri Extension specialist Mary Gosche will facilitate a five-week anger management program, called Rethink. Classes are from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Mondays, April 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18 at the University of Missouri Extension office. Scholarships are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Registration is due Monday and class is subject to cancellation due to low enrollment. For more information call 243-3581.

Bashin' Trash upcoming

The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center is partnering with the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department to clean up Cape LaCroix Creek during the annual Park Day. Meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Osage Community Centre to receive assignments. Ends at noon. Lunch and T-shirts provided. Wear water shoes, work gloves and appropriate clothing. All ages welcome.

Free Last Minute Tax Help in Cape Girardeau

Free tax preparation is available in Cape Girardeau through the IRS and its partners who offer free help in preparing simple tax returns for low- to moderate-income taxpayers. Tax help is available in Cape Girardeau County courtesy of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly volunteers at several locations in Cape Girardeau. Assistance to prepare and electronically file federal income tax returns is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, for people whose incomes are $42,000 or less. Jackson Park Day approaching

Jackson Park Day, a community clean up day, starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 2 at shelter no. 1 on Parkview Street at Jackson City Park. All participants will be offered a T-shirt and lunch served at 11 a.m. Individuals and service groups welcome. If interested and cannot attend on May 2, call Jackson Parks and Recreation at 204-8848 to help on other days or for more information.
