Central baseball drops games to Fox, Seckman

Central lost both road games it played Saturday. The first one against Fox featured strong pitching while the second game against Seckman featured hot hitting.

The Tigers lost 2-1 to Fox and 12-7 to Seckman.

Andrew Williams started against Fox. He pitched well, going six innings and allowing two runs -- one earned -- on five hits but he suffered the loss. He struck out one.

Fox scored two runs in the sixth to beat the Tigers (3-3).

Brooks Bradshaw started the second game against Seckman and allowed six runs on seven hits. Josh Compas came in for 2 1/3 innings of relief and suffered the loss.

Central's Jared Green went 4-for-5 at the plate, including smashing a triple. Bradshaw had two hits and Ryan Grigaitis had three hits.

Central junior varsity lost 12-2

Notre Dame 2, Kennett 0

The Notre Dame baseball team remained undefeated Saturday by slipping past visiting Kennett 2-0.

Jimmy Obermark belted a two run homer in the fifth inning to provide all the offense the Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0 conference) needed.

Austin Greer had two hits for Notre Dame.

Colton Young pitched six shutout innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out eight.

Dexter 8, Oran 5

The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings before surrending five runs in the fifth and eventually the game to the Bearcats.

Zac Chasteen had two hits and three RBIs for Oran. Jayden Pobst and Gabe Kielhofner also had two hits.

Festus Tournament

Scott City split a pair of games in the Festus tournament and placed third.

After losing 10-0 in five innings to the host Tigers, Scott City held on for a 7-6 victory against Herculaneum in the third-place game.

Skylar Cobb suffered the loss in the first game, while Jamie Scholz posted his first win in the second game and Josh Henson recorded the save.

Cobb and Shae Simmons each had two hits in the win. Henson and Jaris Hye both had two RBIs.

Simmons also had two of the Rams' four hits in the first game.

Scott City went 2-1 in the tournament and is 3-3 on the season.

TRACKMurphysboro Invitational

Central's girls were second and the boys fourth during the eight-team meet.

Central's girls had 123 points, behind champion Cahokia's 135. Central's boys scored 87 points. Carbondale won the title with 123.

Individual winners for Central's girls were Brittany Moreland in the 800, Veronica Schabbing in the 1,600, Carlee Reaves in the shot put, Apolonia Thomas in the discus and Sadie Pittman in the triple jump.

On the boys side, winners were Zach Horrell in the discus, Montell Mitchell in the triple jump and Raymond Woldtvedt in the pole vault.
