Port Cape bar to be open tonight following lunchtime fire

Saturday, April 4, 2009

The bar at Port Cape Girardeau will be open tonight after firefighters extinguished a lunchtime cooking fire, said owner Doc Cain.

About 25 people evacuated the downtown restaurant around 1 p.m. today.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes, battalion chief Brad Dillow said.

He said the damage was contained to the kitchen area. Crews cleared smoke from the building for about an hour, he said. There were no injuries.

The bar and ice cream parlor are open, but food service is not available. The restaurant will open tomorrow.
