SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Wanda Duncan with Realty Executives of Cape Girardeau County has been awarded the Accredited Buyer Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council Inc. of the National Association of Realtors. She has also received the Graduate of Realtor Institute and Senior Real Estate Specialist designations.

Dr. Anne Marietta, assistant professor of human environmental studies at Southeast Missouri State University, was among 200 delegates, observers, guests, board members and national office staff to attend the 2004 Phi Kappa Alpha Triennial Convention in Albuquerque, N.M., in August. She listened to presentations by award winners from the organization's grant programs, shared ideas and inspiration at chapter training sessions, conducted the society's business and elected a new board of directors.

Tony Belt and Dale Rose of Rental Land Inc. in Cape Girardeau recently completed the bronze and silver levels of the Stihl Service Advantage Training. The three-tier school provides technical service and safety training for the service personnel of retailers who sell Stihl outdoor power equipment. The course is a hands-on workshop targeted at technicians looking to increase their technical abilities with the equipment.

Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau has been selected by the National Yellow Book of Funeral Directors as the feature funeral home for the front cover of its 2005 edition. Lorberg was selected out of photo submissions from funeral homes throughout the country. Published annually in October, with a circulation of over 25,000, the Yellow Book is a trade directory within the funeral industry containing virtually all the funeral homes in the United States and Canada.

Renowned speaker Steven Oniki recently visited Cape Girardeau Country Club at the behest of Ken Inman, owner of Century 21 Ashland, Key and Heartland Realty. On Nov. 3 and 4, Oniki spoke to those agencies' 103 agents, 15 office employees and several guests about people skills. Oniki travels all over the United States giving motivational and educational speeches.

Jane Clark of Century 21 Key Realty in Cape Girardeau has been invited by the Century 21 Greater St. Louis Brokers Council to be a presenter on The Top Agent Panel at the company's fall conference. She was chosen from more than 3,500 associates for her outstanding performance at the Centurion level.

Melvin Van de Ven, Mike Radake and Scott Van de Ven of Schott & Van de Ven Public Accountants in Cape Girardeau recently attended the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies 109th annual convention in Columbia. The convention featured discussion of contemporary property insurance topics.

Jeff Emmenderfer, who operates a Kirby distributorship of home care systems in Cape Girardeau, recently earned a championship winner's cup from the Kirby Co. The prize is part of a yearlong promotion in which distributors win prizes and trips for reaching their business goals.

Scott Spencer, president and CEO of First Community Bank in Poplar Bluff, has accepted an appointment to serve on the Community Bankers Council of the American Bankers Association (ABA). The Community Bankers Council is a group of 100 bank CEOs from across the country working to strengthen the role of community banks as providers of financial services. The council members are appointed from all 50 states by the ABA president. The council prioritizes issues affecting community banks, identifies product needs of community banks and sets the agenda for the ABA's annual National Conference of Community Leaders.

The administrator of the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department has been named Ste. Genevieve's Outstanding Business Woman. Judy Schilly has been the administrator of the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department for the past 17 years. The Ste. Genevieve Business and Professional Women presented the award during its November meeting.

Cape Girardeau orthodontist David Feuerhahn and oral surgeon Robert Ward were recently inducted as fellows into the International College of Dentists. The college is an honorary organization for the recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the profession and community.

Dr Gregg Hallman of Cape Girardeau Urology Associates Inc. was recently inducted as a fellow into the American College of Surgeons during the college's 90th Clinical Congress. The college is a scientific and educational association of surgeons. Acceptance into the college requires the physician to undergo rigorous evaluation of education, training, professional qualifications, surgical competence and ethical conduct.

Sikeston businessman Steve McPheeters recently received the Distinguished Business/Industry Award from the Missouri Community College Association. The award recognizes those who encourage strong relationships between education and industry. McPheeters is a superintendent for Noranda Aluminum, as well as executive director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce. He helped establish the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center, a joint venture between Three Rivers Community College and Southeast Missouri State University.

Sarah Berkbigler and Emily Lewis of Hillin and Clark PC of Cape Girardeau recently attended the QuickBooks Consultant's Conference. The conference covered advanced training for QuickBooks. Hillin and Clark PC will hold a QuickBooks training program sometime later this month.

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

Dr. M. Ahmad, Dr. U. Umana, Dr. G. Ortiz, Dr. I. Ansari, and Dr. RJ Olk of Marion Eye Centers & Optical attended the American Academy of Ophthalmology for a joint meeting with the European Ophthalmic Society for the latest technology and studies in cataracts, glaucoma, retinal and refractive treatment. The world's largest ophthalmic meeting was held in New Orleans on Oct. 22-25.

Scott Tapp, La-Z-Boy sales representative for Southern Illinois and eastern Missouri was recently among 23 representatives nationwide who were inducted into the company's 2004 Summit Club. The honor is reserved for the top sales representatives.
