Christian music group Casting Crowns coming to Poplar Bluff

Monday, March 23, 2009

A Grammy-award winning Christian music group will perform June 19 at the Black River Coliseum.

Tickets for "An Evening with Casting Crowns" go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
Consistently topping Christian charts, Casting Crowns' past three albums have also made the top 25 on Billboard 200 Albums.
The Georgia band has been called one of the fastest selling debut artists in Christian music history.
Casting Crowns' 2007 album, "The Altar and the Door," was certified Gold after 10 weeks, having debuted in the second spot on the Billboard 200. The band's latest album, "Peace on Earth," was released in 2008.
People are drawn in by the quality of the music, believes Black River Coliseum Director Jason Davenport.
"Whether you are a die hard Christian music fan or just like good music, this is great stuff," said Davenport.
Casting Crowns is one of three Christian music groups organizers have been interested in bringing to Poplar Bluff, Davenport said. About a quarter of concert requests from the public are for Christian music and of those, 95 percent are for bands Casting Crowns, Mercy Me or Third Day.
Event scheduling is driven as much as possible by requests from the public, Davenport explained.
Tickets for the show range from $19 to $39 and are available at the coliseum box office or on Ticketmaster.
Casting Crowns offers a special group rate. Any group ordering 15 or more tickets will receive two free tickets.
"The group rate is designed to accommodate youth groups," Davenport said. "It's nice that this category of music recognizes their fans and does things for them."
The Casting Crowns event adds to an already busy schedule at the coliseum.
A rock concert will be held April 2, with Avenged Sevenfold and Papa Roach performing. The George Carlin Circus is scheduled to appear for April 9. Comedian Rodney Carrington comes to Poplar Bluff April 25.
"We're very pleased with the level of diversity we've achieved this spring," Davenport said. "Next, we'll be working mainly for the fall on a country music event."
