Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approves several Southeast Missouri projects

Several transportation projects around Southeast Missouri costing millions of dollars will move forward after federal stimulus money was directed toward those projects by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission today.
Those projects include, but are not limited to:
- A new welcome center on Interstate 55 at Marston in New Madrid County: $7,113,660
- Pavement maintenance at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport: $1.6 million
- Runway overlay at the Sikeston Memorial Municipal Airport: $2.5 million
- Construction of a transit administration facility in Dexter: $500,000
- Construction of a high-water rail line at the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority: $1.1 million
- Resurfacing of shoulders on Route W in Cape Girardeau from LaSalle Avenue to Lexington Avenue: $2.2 million
- Rehabilitation of pavement on William Street from I-55 to Kingshighway: $442,000

Why do we need another welcome area? How about we take that Seven million dollars and put it toward something a little more productive? I guess I just don't see the big picture.
