Morley, Mo., man struck, killed by train near Oran, Mo.

Saturday, March 14, 2009

ORAN, Mo. -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Friday just south of Oran near County Road 411, said Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.

According to Scott County Coroner Scott Amick, the victim was Richard Ivester Jr., 38, of Morley, Mo.

Walter said Ivester was known to go for walks while wearing headphones and listening to loud music, so he may have been unable to hear the approaching train.

The train's engineer told authorities he saw Ivester and tried to warn him and stop the train but was unable to avoid striking the man, Walter said.

Funeral arrangements for Ivester are incomplete at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

TC1261, why do you have to post a comment such as this when the family and friends need comfort and friendship at this time.

May god bless this family at this time of need. Only god knows why this happened. My prayers are with the family and friends.

Probably because TC1261 believes as most foolish people do that he/she has never made a mistake...

Many thoughts and prayers for the family.

All that really matters is that a family has suffered a great loss and we should be thinking of them and not how or why.

I loved to go for long walks along the creek or river, and sometimes the railroad tracks when I was able to. I preferred to listen to nature though. Everything that happens is according to God's plan. My thoughts, and prayers are with the family.
