American Legion honors Teacher of the Year

Julia Unnerstall, the counselor at Alma Schrader Elementary School, is the American Legion's Teacher of the year for 2009. She directs the Constitution Day and Heroes Assembly, held annually since Sept. 11, 2001. It is open to the public and gives thanks to all those who defend the Constitution. Unnerstall teaches character values, career awareness and study skills for success in life. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and has a Masters in Education from the University of Missouri. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
