Built in 1969 by my Uncle Wayne, and recently given to me for a restoration back to flying status, this is a "control line" model airplane kitted by The Carl Goldberg Company. My cousin Bobby and I spent many of our early teenage Sunday afternoons flying this and other models built by Wayne.

A control line model flys in a circle on steel cables while it's pilot stands in the center, making it loop, wingover and fly up-side down with a handle that controls the plane's elevator. During the 1950's through the early 70's, control line (also called "U-Control") models were all the rage, with contests held across the world.

U-Control faded as Radio Control gear became more affordable, but as with so many other endeavors, there are still groups of enthusiasts who build and fly these planes.

My Uncle Wayne spent lots of time with us as we learned for ourselves to build and fly our models, and those Sunday afternoons are some of the best memories I have.
