Saturday's Connecting People With the Land event at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus provided hands-on exhibits. Zack Kelley, 11, of Cape Girardeau said this was the first time he'd seen someone demonstrate flint knapping in person and he was thrilled to give it a try himself.

Zack and others at the event were taught flint knapping by Matthew Elfrink, a volunteer with the Missouri Department of Conservation.
