Richard Conley

Richard Elwood Conley, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born May 11, 1925, in Cape Girardeau County, son of Huey Lynn and Bertha Martha Froemsdorf Conley. He and Virginia L. Job were married July 20, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. She died Aug. 25, 2008.

Conley served in the U.S. Army. He was a lineman with Missouri Utilities, retiring in 1987. Conley was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111 and VFW Post 3838, and he was a 4-H leader.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Danny) Freeman of Jackson, Karen Mobley of Jefferson City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Celia Conley of Chicago; six grandchildren, Travis Mobley, Kyla Shorter, Tara Conner, Toby Freeman, Richard W. Conley, Kenny Skippergosh; and seven great-grandchildren, Logan Allee, Darra Mobley, Harrison Mobley, Camden Conner, Kalen Conner, Keilah Freeman, Aliyah Skippergosh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia L. Job Conley; his father, Huey Lynn Conley; his mother, Bertha Martha Froemsdorf Conley; a son, Ronald W. Conley; a brother; two sisters; and a great-grandchild, Gavin Mobley.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites by Missouri Honors Team.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
