Letter to the Editor

Ervin had impact on many lives

To the editor:

The passing of Dr. Ferrell Ervin calls for a time of reflection for many of us. He truly had a profound effect on my life. When I transferred to Southeast Missouri State University from Kansas State University 11 years ago, Ervin helped me to make the transition a smooth one. Working full-time while pursuing a mass communications degree sometimes created difficulty trying to make all the required classes fit into my schedule. Ervin was there for me and helped me to develop a solution.

Ervin also helped me professionally. Over the past few years, he has served as the internship coordinator for the Department of Mass Communications and has provided interns to work in my office. This provided not only a positive work experience for the interns, but helped me to gain new ideas and techniques.

The thing I will remember most about Ervin was his manner. He was a very kind and compassionate man who really understood the challenges facing his students. His manner was to help them see the opportunities that lie ahead and encourage them to be the best at what they do. I knew he really cared about my future, and for that I am very grateful.

The impact Ervin had on my life will always be a great memory. I am thankful that I was fortunate enough to know such an influential and inspiring man.
