Wind chill advisory in effect through 10 a.m. today

Many areas in Southeast Missouri are bracing for the lowest temperatures of the winter so far, which are prompting a wind chill advisory through 10 a.m. today. Bollinger, Cape Giradeau, Perry, Scott and Stoddard counties along with Alexander and Union counties in Southern Illinois will experience frigid Arctic air and north winds at 11 to 16 mph, with gusts up to about 25 mph.
The National Weather Service cautions anyone going outside to take precautions to avoid frostbite and hypothermia that can occur in such conditions.
Today's high in Cape Girardeau is expected to reach 23 degrees, with wind chill values as low as minus 7 degrees. The forecast for tonight's low is 5 degrees, with wind chills dropping to minus 2.
