We're still fans

It's almost unnatural for anyone from Southeast Missouri to root for a Major League baseball team other than the St. Louis Cardinals. And this year's season had area fans full of energy and excitement.

In Cardinal country, a trip to the World Series was just what fans had hoped would happen. It had been 17 years since the Cards' last bid for the championship title.

Regular season play was filled with exciting games for fans who watched their team win 105 times. And the Cardinals played as a team, with most of the spotlight on combination plays rather than home-run races.

Regular-season wins weren't enough to earn the Cardinals the World Series title. The Cards lost to Boston in four games.

But there's always next year -- and die-hard fans from Southeast Missouri will be back to root for the home team. Go, Cards!
