Phyllis Jean Simmons, 67, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Rolla, Mo., daughter of Ervin Sylvester and Marjorie (Key) Long. She and Arnold Simmons were married on July 30, 1960, in Paducah, Ky.
She was a devoted wife and mother and volunteered extensively for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, grade school PTA, the Cape Central Band Boosters Club and for SEMO Modelers Association.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Simmons of Cape Girardeau; a son, Michael Simmons and wife Lisa of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Marjorie Bono of St. James, Mo., Diane Murray and husband Bobby of Perryville; mother, Marjorie (Key) Long of Paducah, Ky.; a brother, David W. Long of Paducah; a sister, Marilyn Thompson of Paducah; six grandchildren, Ryan Simmons, Laura Simmons, Caitlin Simmons, all of Cape Girardeau, Chris Bono, Amanda Bono, Alec Bono, all of St. James.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Sylvester Long.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating.
Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
