Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Southeast Missouri may be in store for a mixture of heavy rain, high wind, sleet and snow between this morning and early Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicts a 100 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms today, with a high of 54 degrees. Winds from the south will fluctuate between 18 and 21 mph, though gusts could reach as high as 33 mph. Rainfall amounts will range from one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch an hour in heavier rainfall.

Rain is likely before midnight, with a northwest wind of 17 to 20 mph. Gusts may reach as high as 31 mph. By 2 a.m. Wednesday, snow may mix with rain and could change to all snow by 5 a.m. before ending around 8 a.m. The chance of a wintry mix is 30 percent.

The Cape Girardeau and Jackson police departments reported no major flooding or motor vehicle accidents as of 7 a.m. today. The Southeast Missourian has received a few reports of water starting to form on roadways in some parts of Cape Girardeau.
