Vehicle hits fire hydrant in downtown Cape Girardeau causing icy conditions on roadway

The Cape Girardeau Police Department is warning motorists to use extra caution when driving near the intersection of Bellevue Street and Fountain Street. At around 2:15 a.m. this morning a car hit a fire hydrant, causing water to spill out. As a result, icy conditions have developed on the roadway. The motor vehicle fled the scene of the accident, police said.
