Notre Dame loses state semifinals

Notre Dame senior John Unterreiner grabbed his head after a missed opportunity during overtime in the state semifinal match against Helias Friday, November 21, 2008, at the Anheuser-Busch Center in Fenton, Mo. Helias won 1-0, spoiling Notre Dame's hopes for a third straight Class 2 State Championship.

The Notre Dame Bulldogs have lost in their bid for a third straight state boys soccer title.

The Bulldogs played Helias starting at 11 a.m. today in the state semifinals in Fenton, Mo. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of regulation, but Helias scored two overtime penalty goals to Notre Dame's one, making the score 1-0 in favor of Helias.

Notre Dame will play at 11 a.m. Saturday for third place at Fenton.
