UNITED WAY REACHES 30% OF GOAL

As the temperature drops all across the state, one local group is very happy to see their thermometers rising. The United Way campaign goal thermometers across Cape Girardeau and Jackson have finally crept up to the 30 percent mark.

"Many campaigns are coming in slower than usual this year due to distractions related to the economy and election. But, we are confident that when all of our campaigns are complete we will celebrate another successful year," said Director of Development Holly Lintner.

Campaign totals from local businesses and organizations are sent to United Way through the end of the year and sometimes into spring. Most of the campaigns submitted to date have successfully reached the fundraising goal they had set for themselves.

"The people of our community recognize that the need is greater than ever and that United Way is the leader in finding solutions," said Jay Wolz of Southeast Missouri Hospital and volunteer campaign chairman for United Way. "Once someone finds out that one in three people in Southeast Missouri are affected by United Way services, they want to get involved."

It is not too late to make a difference. To give to United Way, donors can contact their employer or United Way directly at (573) 334-9634 or www.unitedwayofsemo.org.

United Way staff, volunteers, community partners and the countless people who benefit from United Way services express gratitude to the employees and CEO’s of the following groups that have contributed to the $1,275,000 campaign goal thus far:
