COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Barack Obama brings his Democratic campaign for the White House back to Missouri this week with an appearance in Columbia.

The Illinois senator is scheduled to appear Thursday night at a rally on the Mel Carnahan Quad at the University of Missouri. A schedule posted Monday on the Obama campaign website says gates will open at 7:30 p.m., with the event starting two hours later.

Obama's running mate, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, is also expected Thursday in the state, but details have yet to be announced.

A new poll conducted for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and television station KMOV shows Obama and McCain about even in Missouri.
