Mo. judge rejects lawsuit against casino measure

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A state judge rejects a lawsuit seeking to knock a casino initiative off the November ballot.

The initiative would repeal Missouri's unique gambling loss limit, cap licenses for new casinos and raise casino taxes to increase funding for education.

Critics contended the measure illegally included multiple subjects and had an unclear title.

An attorney representing them argued Friday that the measure was an attempt to "log roll" voters by getting them to approve the measure because they support part of its various elements, though it's likely they oppose others.

Cole County Judge Richard Callahan said Monday that the casino measure does use log rolling. But he sided with casino measure backers anyway, saying the various elements involve the same subject.

I truely want to vote yes to this to lift the loss limit and give the taxes to schools but I dont want to be voting down the opportunity for any new casinos at the same time! hmmm

This proposal is a fraud. Vote NO. It is brought to you by people who know what gambling is all about. The casinos are the ones backing this so who do you think will come out ahead. Those casinos already operating will make an incredible windfall. They could easily pass this and still win out if they agreed to the 1% increase in taxes and repeal the loss limit without putting a cap on the number of casinos. It is not like the number will increase exponentially.

Allow the market to determine what will work and where. There may be some areas (like Caruthersville) where a small casino can be successful and it help the community.

I want to vote no because I'm opposed to gambling; however, the only way to keep a casino out of Cape is to vote yes. Hmmm
