Monday deadline for digital scrapbooking class

The reason people sign up for Linda Ewbank's digital scrapbooking class is because of lack of time.

The process is simple. "If you can do email you can do this," said Ewbanks.

An upcoming class sponsored by Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. for three weeks on Thursdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20 at the Osage Centre. Ewbanks, a Creative Memories consultant, will be teaching the class using photo software called "Memory Manager" that provides an efficient way to organize your photos. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop computer with pictures loaded on it, but this is not required.

Ewbanks said, "My biggest concern is we're going to have a generation of pictures lost because people are leaving them on their computers and not getting them printed off."

Ewbanks said digital scrapbooking is very comparable to traditional scrapbooking in price and results in library quality, archival albums. The cost of the software is included in the class, along with a certificate for $39.95 toward the purchase of a digital album. Registration fees for the class are $45 for Cape Girardeau residents and $48 for nonresidents.

Albums range from a card stock variety for $17.95 to the hard back variety ranging from $44.95 to $79.95.

There are more than 30 themes and 30 layouts to choose from in each theme.

The process involves dragging, clicking, typing text, uploading to a website and submitting. Your scrapbook then arrives by mail.

The software also enables scanning old photographs which can be edited too. The option of telling stories about each individual picture is also available besides just text boxes.
