At the end of a ceremony that mixed personal remembrance of Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr. and allusions to the difficulties of constructing the building named in his honor, family members and dignitaries cut the ribbon at Cape Girardeau's new federal courthouse.

The project is now officially complete nearly 15 years after the first federal appropriation of $3.8 million for design and land acquisition. The Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr. Federal Courthouse, built at a final cost of more than $62 million, was opened for business in June. Monday's ceremony brought together family members — U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., grandson of the building's namesake gave the keynote speech — as well as federal, state and local officials who worked on the project.

"We had challenges, but the challenges were overcome," said Bradley Scott, regional administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration, which oversaw the construction.

The building is a fitting tribute to Limbaugh, said his son, retired U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Sr. His expressed hope is that his father's devotion to the law will inspire the attorneys who practice there. "He lived it, he breathed it," Limbaugh Sr. said. "He loved it and it was his virtual life."

As he spoke of his grandfather, Stephen Limbaugh Jr. recalled his work ethic, which kept him at his desk six days a week almost to the end of his life in 1996 at age 104, and his example of respect for others and clients, regardless of their ability to pay.

"He taught a course in civility like he taught a course in work ethic," Limbaugh said.

Remember that Jo Ann Emerson forced the designers to go back and air condition the atrium, the towering wide open unoccupied foyer dead space that you see in the photograph. How incredibily "intelligent" of her to do so. That is only one reason that call her PRINCESS FLUFFY.

I missed the notation that this was an invitation only event, even though we paid for the damn building. It was stated that it was for Security Reasons by the FEDS... however, seeing that the whole damn clan and Jo Ann Emerson appear outside the building cutting a ribbon in the open, it makes me think that they weren't so concerned with security, as they had alleged, but with keeping any angry Repbulicans from getting within earshot of Emerson, so that they could tell her what they thought of her bailing out Wall Street greedy bankers and FOREIGN BANKS.

Security, my a*s, the NO PUBLIC rule was to keep us away from Emerson, so that she could avoid being confronted on her sell out, bail out vote.

Mobush, I'm curious about your comment that the apples fell far from the tree. Rush Jr was a lawyer and a World War II fighter pilot who served in the China-Burma-India theater. The family is filled with a number of lawyers including grandson David as well as Stephen N and Stephen Sr, and Stephen Jr . Rush III is a conservative political talk show host.

exactly.

I was out this morning running some errands when I noticed this rather oppulent group of vehicles coming into the city so it was obvious that something was up as they all had Homeland Security on them. Wonder if they were here to protect Rush or JoAnne and I wonder what that cost us? I agree with the bumper stickers that I see occasionally around town that say "Flush Rush".

From what I have read of Limbaugh Sr he must have been an incredible man and many of his friends and family are better for knowing him. One of the fruits of his love for history and the United States is his grandson Rush Limbaugh. I think it is deplorable and a manifestation of one's charactor to attack Rush Limbaugh III as I have read from miniscule minds on this blog. Whether one agrees with Rush or not he is productive and a success. A man I would be very pleased to call son if I were his mom or grandson if I were his grandfather. As it is I am just a listener and one who respects not just Rush Limbaugh III but all of the Limbaughs that I have read about. They are a fine American family - true patriots.

You people that somehow discount Rush I's accomplishments by juxtaposing him with Rush III and his political stances ("apples falling from the tree") are really astonishing and typical of modern-day pop culture's hypocrisy. A family can be great, influential, and defining to the American experience regardless of what you think of individual politics. Remember JFK? I didn't agree with his actions and behaviors, yet, when members of his family died, it saddened me. I even agreed with Pres. Clinton when he sent a Navy ship out to look for JFK Jr. when his plane went down in the ocean (using taxpayer money).

I have members of my family that I don't agree or associate with, but they're still my family. If Rush Limbaugh (I) was a great force in Missouri history, then naming a courthouse after him is no different than naming countless schools and freeways after Martin Luther King, LBJ, etc. The only difference is that Liberals and Leftists go into "protest mode" and throw a tantrum. In this case, the name Rush Limbaugh is synonimous with Conservatism--and Liberals don't like it. If I were to go around and raise hell every time I saw something named after a Liberal, I would be either branded a hatemonger, a racist, a bigot, or a gun-and-Bible "clinger."

We are Americans first. Those of you who throw a tantrum about the Limbaugh name on a courthouse have, in my opinion, a brown nose with a streak of yellow.
