Poplar Bluff police seize 7 pounds of marijuana

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Authorities seized about seven pounds of suspected marijuana and more than $7,200 in currency they believe is associated with drug sales Thursday afternoon.

During the investigation, Lee was located, and during a traffic stop, he was found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana in his vehicle, said SEMO Drug Task Force Officer Scott Johnston.

The traffic stop was conducted on Lee's Cadillac sport utility vehicle at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Relief Street by officer Darron Moore. A quantity of marijuana was discovered in his vehicle and he was arrested, Johnston said.

Lee, 30, of the 1100 block of Tremont Street, was arrested on suspicion of no driver's license and possession of marijuana.

Since Lee had his juvenile son and a dog in the vehicle, his wife, Alexandria, was contacted to pick up the child, Johnston said.

"During a conversation with the wife, it was discovered there was additional marijuana and paraphernalia at their residence," Johnston said.

He said officers applied for a search warrant, which was executed by members of the police department, task force and Butler County Sheriff's Department.

The search turned up about seven pounds of marijuana and $6,500 in $100 bills in the home, Johnston said.

Officers also found scales, numerous items of suspected drug paraphernalia and "other items seized [which are used] to support marijuana distribution," Johnston said.
