Mo. lawmakers fight WWI memorial in WashingtonWednesday, September 24, 2008KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri's congressional delegation is opposing an effort to establish a World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C. The lawmakers say such a move would diminish the importance of Kansas City's Liberty Memorial, which Congress has designated as the National World War I Museum. Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver and Republican Sen. Kit Bond have introduced bills to ensure events tied to the 100th anniversary of the start of Great War, to begin in 2014, are anchored at the Liberty Memorial. A Republican congressman is pushing legislation to expand the current District of Columbia memorial to World War I veterans to encompass all U.S. veterans of the war. He notes Washington already features memorials to the Korean and Vietnam wars and to World War II.

How pathetic is this? Tourism dollars mean more than a memorial in the Capital of the Nation to fallen soldiers? The people fighting against this should be flushed down the nearest toilet. Bond has always been a scumbag, and this Democrat is no better.
Having lived inthe Kansas City area let's talk about the Liberty Memorial there. They have an average of 1 to 2 drive-by-shootings per day, until the State of Missouri stepped in, it was falling apart, and it was a joke to the Veterans of the Great War. I was ashamed of it, and like most decent people, avoided it and the park as much as possible. Let's keep our memorials together in Washington, where all can respect and honor our Veterans, and those that Died to keep us FREE.
