why is it closed to the public? Do you have to be a "somebody" to get in?

Who cares what HOLLYWEIRD thinks. Go back to where you came from!

-- Posted by Cape4Life on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 7:13 AM

Who is she promoting to if the public is not invited??

-- Posted by Wildnsyko on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 7:34 AM

I'm guessing Cape4life would complain about anyone promoting Obama...

-- Posted by flying-d on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 8:11 AM

Dang it!!! Why do the actors and actresses I like ALL support the WRONG side? Their brains must be fried from all the Hollywood lights!

-- Posted by indian_mom on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 8:25 AM

indian_mom - I wanted to take a stab at answering your question. I suspect that it has a lot to do with getting work. The Blacklist in Hollywood still exists, only now, if you are conservative in way, shape or form, good luck getting any real work. Jon Voigt, I imagine, only manages to get steady work because he was a convert, at least vocally, once his career was established. But, how many really good roles are going to Tom Selleck these days. I'd count Mel Gibson in that as well, but he isn't conservative, he's just a Klan member.

"Actor Ashley Judd will be in Cape Girardeau today to discuss economic policy" <-- now that's funny. I like Ashley Judd's acting and she's certainly more pleasing on the eye than her sister, but her depth on economics is nil.

When are candidates from either party going to learn that 'normal' Americans don't care about the political ideology of actors?

I sure hope we can get Billy Bob Thornton or Brad Pitt to come into town and talk about our national security strategy.

-- Posted by Wisconsin on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 10:42 AM

LOL!!!! Wisconsin you hilarious ... I love it.

Besides, everyone knows national security would be a matter best handled by someone who has been in a war, like Chuck Norris.

-- Posted by jdsamons on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 10:51 AM

Just like any other American citizen, actors have a right to express their point of view and vocally support whomever they would like. I think it is a shame that whenever someone comes to Cape (be it Obama, Clinton, Judd or anyone else) it is closed to the public. Why then even bother to come?

-- Posted by CapeRes on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 11:09 AM

Did you all here the latest Obama ad saying McCain was out of touch buy not using a computer or e-mailing. Did they not know he can not do those things due to his war injuries???? How pitiful to slam a man that has a handicap. Way to go Obama. Maybe community organizers didn’t have to work with handicap people.

-- Posted by Cape4Life on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 12:49 PM

And Yes, I support Sarah Palin.

-- Posted by Cape4Life on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 12:51 PM

And I would care less if any celeb. that had no history on the subject they are coming to talk about no matter who or what they support.

-- Posted by Cape4Life on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 12:53 PM

You have to be a "celebrity" or one of the "in" crowd to hang with Obama or his posse.

I wonder if "Hollywood" realizes there are many others out there besides myself who choose not to support movies where the actors use their salaries to support political causes, especially for a party, or candidate, I do not believe in. They wrongly think the economy is keeping people away, but most people do not want to use a middle person, an actor, to fund something they do not agree with. Actors and others with large amounts of money in the bank live totally different than the common American. How in the world do they think they can identify and relate to us? Ever wonder why most business people are Republican and most artsy entertainers are Democrat? Business people went to college and studied things like economics and actors go to film school to learn how to be someone other than themselves.

My thought is that it is closed to the public because they do not care about what the public thinks.

These actors who like to throw their names behind the candidate like to tell the small town public what to think because they believe we are too stupid to think for ourselves. Their fame and money have made them completely out of touch with the general public and reality.

How can Ashley Judd be "promoting" Obama when she is speaking to a select few wealthy Democrats who are voting for him anyway? I don't really see the point. This just gives me another reason NOT to vote for him.

-- Posted by corndodger on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 1:44 PM

Ashley Judd Stinks as an actress. Why does anyone care what she has to say?

-- Posted by Bumble_Bee on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 1:56 PM

"Did they not know he can not do those things due to his war injuries????"

Give me a break...this is another lie and I'm getting tired of his war experience being the only answer to every question. He's done a lot of things since the war...spend some time on THAT history folks.

When are candidates from either party going to learn that 'normal' Americans don't care about the political ideology of actors?

Can we throw Reagan in that mix too?

-- Posted by shortwhitebaldguy on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 4:33 PM

Actors and others with large amounts of money in the bank live totally different than the common American.

So is that a swipe at McCain, Judd, or Obama? I wonder if Ashley has seven houses.

Cape4SomeLife --

There's that phony outrage that Republicans do so well. There are plenty of things that John McCain can do in spite of his handicap, including using a computer. It didn't keep him from putting his arms around numerous women while still married to his first wife. If he can do that, he can certainly handle a keyboard.

The event is closed to the public.

Classic.

Ashley Judd is well within her rights to promote her choice of Presidential candidates... for whatever reason, just as you are well within your rights to not go see her movies as a form of "protest".

But don't get up on your soapbox about how the democrats are out of touch with the common american... especially when John McCain thinks a "rich" american makes $5 million a year or more, his GOP nomination goes off without a hitch, despite party rules requiring more than his 49% of delegates, and when our current President continues a war that reportedly less than 30% of Americans approve of.

And before you brand me a liberal, just know that I'm not voting for Obama either.

-- Posted by Swollen_Thumb on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 7:26 PM

From the Boston Globe (March 4, 2000):

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes.

.........

you never have heard McCain say he can't do certain things because of his war injuries...but that is in fact the truth.

I feel special my wife was invited to see Ashley Judd speak, Unfortunately, we were doing something else for the good of the Democrats, so she was unable to make it.

-- Posted by harveyjoe on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 8:26 PM

You only need 1 finger to type on a computer - does he have 1 finger? That's what I'm saying.

-- Posted by suelynn on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 10:08 PM

Ten bucks says Ashley Judd can't intelligently discuss the candidates' differing views on even one issue . . .

-- Posted by MarionMorrison on Sat, Sep 13, 2008, at 11:26 PM

Judd has a right to speak and I have a right to say who cares.

SU

The problem isn't having the parts to touch a keyboard and maybe he does.....the problem is the nerve damage that tells the parts to move. You ever noticed he can't raise his arms above his shoulders when he waves?

One key at a time huh? yeah. that wouldn't waste taxpayer's time and money. Besides,How many CEO's in this country do you think actually sit down at a computer and work? Not many..that's what they have 'people' for.

-- Posted by Maytag on Sun, Sep 14, 2008, at 8:02 AM

Magtag,

Does someone button his shirt and zip his zipper too? He keeps claiming he is fit to serve, perhaps we should know his exact physical limitations...before we vote.

RON PAUL

-- Posted by tinks89 on Sun, Sep 14, 2008, at 3:29 PM

Being fit to serve, has nothing to do with typing on a keyboard.

-- Posted by Maytag on Sun, Sep 14, 2008, at 6:13 PM

The man used to fly jets. He is not stupid. He has lost most of the function in his hands due to having them broken several times during torture while he was a POW for several years. I have heard all this talk about "he only needs one finger to type". Politics aside and from my heart I would respond that I only need one finger to explain how I feel when people belittle him for his injuries!

The below comments have me convinced computer familiarity should be a central issue in this election.

That said, I'd like to know both candidates' prowess with Microsoft Office products, their ability to set up basic firewall and virus protections, and their recommendations on how they're going to improve my 802.11 wireless connection. Should I step up to 802.11n or wait for the next standard upgrade?

And if we're going to consider computer skills, shouldn't we be at least mentioning home repair and lawn care? I spend a heck of a lot more time on those than on my computer. If Senator McCain's injuries prevent him from using a keyboard and mouse, then can we assume he can't handle a rotary saw or leaf blower? Oh, the inhumanity! I can't imagine the Republicans would nominate someone so obviously out of touch with my weekend "To Do" list.

< Sarcasm Button Off > Seriously, folks ... if our President needs to spend his / her time in the Oval Office sending emails and massaging PowerPoint briefs, then we're all scr3wed.
