McCain supporter says candidate coming to Illinois

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

CHICAGO (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain is headed to his rival's home state after the GOP convention.

State finance chairman Bill Strong says McCain will visit Illinois for a fundraising event.

With Illinois clearly favoring Obama, McCain hasn't spent much time here. But Chicago still has plenty of Republicans interested in donating to the Arizona senator, so an occasional fundraising event makes sense for his campaign.

And coming to Obama's home state soon after officially claiming the nomination could make a point about how hard McCain will fight in this election.
