Jackson softball pummels Chaffee in season opener

The Jackson High School softball team romped to a 15-1 victory against Chaffee in the season opener for both teams Monday at Jackson City Park.

The Indians banged out 14 hits.

Charissa Mize tallied three RBIs. TeJay Heuer, Taylor Coleman and Megan Dockins each had multiple hits for the Indians (1-0).

Jessica Tuschhoff allowed one unearned run on one hit, struck out five and walked four for Jackson.

Central 2, Perryville 0

Amanda Nichols dominated on the mound for Central as the Tigers (1-0) knocked off the Pirates.

Nichols pitched all seven innings, giving up two hits, one walk and striking out 11.

Nichols also had two of Central's three hits. She went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Tayler Scott added a double and an RBI.

The Hawks scored 11 runs on 14 hits as they cruised to victory.

Londyn Backfisch led the Hawks (1-0) with four hits, Brittney Brantley added three hits and Katie Moore had two hits and three RBIs. Casey Kern also had a double and two RBIs.

Heather Beggs pitched four innings to earn the win. She struck out six, walked one and allowed one hit.

The Indians allowed eight runs in the middle innings and dropped its opener to Potosi.

Anna Steele led St. Vincent (0-1) with three hits and two RBIs. Amy Winschel added a double and two RBIs for St. Vincent.

The Rams dropped their season opener at home.

Rachel Reed allowed six runs on seven hits over the first two innings, but she only allowed two hits over the final five innings.

Reed also went 2-for-3 with a double for the Rams (0-1).

Kara Versemann blasted the first home run in Saxony Lutheran's school history, but the Crusaders fell to visiting Ste. Genevieve.

Versemann bombed a two-run homer in the fourth inning and tallied a double later in the game. She finished with three RBIs for Saxony (0-1).

Nicole McLard, Kayla Petzoldt, Bailey Crites and London Hendershott each had multiple hits.
