Suspect dead, officers hurt after confrontation in Berkeley, Mo.Friday, August 22, 2008BERKELEY, Mo. (AP) -- An autopsy is planned on a suspect who died during a confrontation with detectives. Police identify the man as 31-year-old Craig Foster. Two detectives are recovering after the incident that happened Thursday night in Berkeley. Police spokesman Rick Eckhard says detectives were following Foster concerning possible drug charges when he suddenly stopped his car. He allegedly pulled a gun as the officers approached. One of the detectives tackled the suspect, knocking him to the ground, while others assisted in subduing him. Eckhard says Foster suddenly stopped fighting and became non-responsive. Detectives tried to revive Foster, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital. One detective was treated for bites and abrasions. The other had a broken rib. |
