NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An Illinois truck driver accused of killing at least four women in three states has been booked on five counts of solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
The grand jury indictment announced Monday by Nashville police charges Bruce Mendenhall with seeking to arrange the murders of two detectives and three witnesses while in jail.
The 57-year-old from Albion, Illinois, is charged with the June 2007 shooting death of 25-year-old Sara Nicole Hulbert, whose body was found at a truck stop along Interstate 24 in Nashville.
He was arrested by detectives the following month and has since been charged with killing three other women in Tennessee, Indiana, and Alabama.
Mendenhall has been held without bond since his arrest.
