ND spikers debut with a 'W'

Notre Dame opened its volleyball season with an 18-25, 25-16, 25-19 victory at Festus Tuesday night.

Allison Essner had 23 assists and Amber Karnes added 21 for the Bulldogs (1-0). Amanda Essner had seven kills, while Rachel Weidenbenner had eight blocks. Ashley Dix had nine digs and Lauren Mehner added eight dig.

Notre Dame's JV lost 22-25, 24-26, while the freshmen team won 25-22, 25-20.

Jackson 25-16-25, St. Vincent 19-25-10

Jackson opened its season with a three-game win on the road.

For the Indians, Ashley Goggins collected nine aces, Lucy Hartmann had 11 digs, and Amanda Peiffer had four blocks and four kills.

Jackson lost the JV match 25-19, 16-25, 10-25, and lost the freshman match in two games.

Perryville 25-25, Central 21-21

Jaime Hacker had six kills to help Perryville sweep its season opener at home.

Stephanie Landholt added four kills for the Pirates (1-0).

Jessica Johnston led the Tigers (0-2) with five kills.

Perryville's JV won 25-20, 25-22.

Scott City 25-16-25, Advance 20-25-19

Scott City got off to a 2-0 start with a three-set home victory over Advance.

Ashton Phillips led the Rams with 14 digs and four kills. Kacie Cartwright had a big night with eight kills, 13 digs and four aces. Abbie Cook added five kills, Jenny Glency had four kills and Lindsey Amick had 20 assists.

Kacie Ritter knocked down seven kills for the Hornets (0-1), while Alicia Broshuis had nine assists, and Angela Broshuis had eight digs.

Advance's JV won 25-16, 15-15.

Tennis

Central 8, Farmington 1

Central won in the conclusion of its season-opening, rain-delayed match against Farmington.

Central (1-0) won all but one singles set in the home victory.

The Tigers' JV won 13-2.

Sarah Cook allowed only one hit in Delta's shutout road victory.

Cook struck out seven and walked one. Cook added two hits for the Bobcats (2-1), who picked up their first win over varsity competition.

Kaci Menz was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a triple. Kacie Seabaugh and Kayla Seabaugh added two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Hillsboro 1, Central 0

Central pitcher Callie Hoffman allowed only one unearned run in a complete game effort, but it wasn't enough to top Hillsboro's perfect game.

The Tigers dropped to 0-3 with the home loss.
