Jerry Waddle

Almost anyone in education, along with countless students and parents, in Southeast Missouri knows Jerry Waddle.

In the 40 years before he retired last year, Waddle was a teacher, principal and superintendent in the Delta, Kelly and Dexter school districts. He also worked for the Missouri Department of Education, taught at Southeast Missouri State University (serving as interim dean of the College of Education) and directed the Regional Professional Development Center. Waddle, as a consultant for the Missouri School Boards Association, also helped the Cape Girardeau School District in its recent search for a new superintendent.

Last week, Waddle's years of service and dedication to his profession were recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, which gave him one of this year's five Pioneer in Education awards.

Congratulations to Jerry Waddle, both for his state honor and for his years of commitment to education. He is a model for experienced teachers and future teachers alike.
