INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A man convicted of murder in the videotaped sex slaying of an Independence woman has been sentenced to death.
A Jackson County jury deliberated for less than two hours Tuesday before giving the death sentence to 44-year-old Richard D. Davis of Independence.
Davis was convicted Thursday in the death of Marsha Spicer and for his role in torturing Spicer and 36-year-old Michelle Huff-Ricci.
Both Spicer's death and the attack on Huff-Ricci were recorded on videotapes that became key evidence in the trial.
Davis and his girlfriend, Dena Riley, are charged in Clay County with murdering Huff-Ricci.
