Garland D. McKinney, 59, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 28, 2008, at his home.
He was born Oct. 31, 1948, at Lowndes, Mo., son of Ollivett Kidren and Ida L. Hefner McKinney. He married Kay Bowers.
McKinney was a truck driver with Delta Express. He was a member of the VFW in Scott City.
He served 21 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two tours in Vietnam and also in Desert Shield/Storm. He received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars and a Silver Star.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeremy McKinney of Oklahoma City; four stepsons, Curt Bowers of Lawton, Okla., Joe Bowers of Oil City, La., Vito Carello of Ishpeming, Mich., Dominic Carello of Fort Rucker, Ala.; a brother, Tom Blanton of Bonnie, Ill.; four sisters, Phyllis Parrish of Doniphan, Mo., Waunema Reagan and Dorothy Wetzel of Mount Vernon, Ill., Kathy Hammock of Salem, Ill.; four grandchildren; and 13 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
A memorial service and burial will be at a later date.
