CAIRO, Ill. -- Darrell Wayne Thomas Sr., 56, of Cairo died Friday, July 18, 2008, at St. Louis University Hospital.

He was born Dec. 7, 1951, in Cairo, son of Ralph Bell Sr. and Rose Mary Harmon Thomas.

Thomas was a graduate of Cairo High School, and attended Egyptian adult Vocational School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his mother of Cairo; five sons, Darrell Jr. and Donald Thomas of Wisconsin, Darrell Wayne and Darrell Lee of Cairo, Shelton Thomas of Marion, Ill.; three daughters, Daffney Thomas of Washington, D.C., Cheryl Thomas of Springfield, Ill., Brittney Lowe of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Antone Cook of Los Angeles, Sebastian Thomas of Cairo, Ralph Belk Jr. and Kenneth Bell of Chicago; six sisters, Brenda Pope, Rovena Thomas, Anita Long, Natalie Thomas, all of Cairo, Vanessa Gallion of Charleston, Mo., Leslie Bell of Chicago; and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, Ill.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Derek Eurales officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery.
