Arrest made in Scott County stabbing

Saturday, July 12, 2008
Benton, Mo. — The Scott County Sheriff's Department reported an arrest Friday in connection with a stabbing that occurred July 2 on Dale Street in Sikeston, Mo.

Matthew W. Windes, 18, of Benton was arrested on the charge of first degree assault and armed criminal action. A cash bond was set at $50,000.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute that began earlier in the evening in Stoddard County. The sheriff's department said the dispute reconvened on Robinwood Lane in Scott County where Windes is alleged to have tried to run over two people with his truck. This event led to a fight and stabbing on Dale Street, the department said.

Deputies responded to the disturbance call about 10 p.m. July 2.

At least one person was taken a to a Sikeston hospital and had emergency surgery for stab wounds as a result of the disturbance, Walter said; several others were injured.
