Model airfield a blessing in disguise

To the editor:

The move from Gordonville to Galaxy Park Model Airfield was a blessing in disguise. When we found out we would lose the Gordonville site, we had a year to find a new flying field. After looking at several sites, an article in our AMA magazine brought up the subject of landfills and Superfund sites as model flying fields. One of our members knew the idle period for the landfill was up. After a lot of hard work from members and businesses donating equipment and material, we now have a nice flying field.

Unlike Gordonville, our new field never floods and is usable 365 days a year. A few of our hard-core fliers fly at least once a week all year long. In Gordonville we couldn't make any improvements. Our new field gets better all the time. We have electricity, ample parking and covered areas.

All 38 members are ready and willing to jump in and do any project that needs to be done to make our airfield a first-class place.

The city names the park before we found we could use it. It's Galaxy Park on Gizmo Lane. We pay a fee for its use.

We invite everyone in the area to come out and see what a great hobby this is. If the gate is open, we are there. Come on in and check us out. I'll let you fly my plane if it isn't too windy.
