KELSO, Mo. -- Jesse Eugene Strickland, 76, of Kelso died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Chicago, son of Luther Eugene and Hilda Mae McCellvin Strickland. He and Elizabeth H. Slawson were married May 8, 1960, in Jackson. She died May 22, 2003.

Strickland worked at Arkansas Best Freight from 1956 to 1993. He was a member of Commerce Baptist Church; Spring Creek, La., Masonic Lodge 184, and Jackson, Miss., Scottish Rite. He moved to Kelso 39 years ago from Jackson, Miss.

He was a Yeoman 3rd class in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include four sons, Rocky Strickland of Kentwood, La., Keith Strickland of Baton Rouge, La., Shannon Strickland of Delta, Kirk Strickland of Jackson; a daughter, Dawn Holder of Scott City; three sisters, Donnie Givens and Diane Buckley of Kentwood, Trenie Britton of Jackson, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Scott City from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at the chapel, with the Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will be Thursday in East Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Kentwood.
