NCAA infractions

Southeast Missouri State University was recently sanctioned by the NCAA for various infractions in the basketball program. The ordeal has been well-publicized. The university's women's basketball team must vacate wins for two years, including its first Ohio Valley Conference regular-season and tournament championships and its first NCAA appearance in Division I.

On the surface, the infractions appeared minor. A little meal here, a little travel thing there. Some of the infractions didn't appear to be intentional. The whole situation, whether the punishment was justified or not, was embarrassing to the university.

The university has already taken some steps to create better oversight. The athletic department and university have learned a lot of hard lessons through this experience. We hope the worst is over. It's time to move on. There are games to be played, goals to reach, championships to win.
