The local church groups had a field day at this concert trying to block the entrances and trying to prevent people from entering the parking lot and building! They never stopped me! I had a great time and will never forget this concert. People still ask me about this show and I like telling the younger people about the show. We do not have entertainment like that now days! I was also at the Guns n Roses RIOT in St. Louis in 1993. That was a show besides itself!!!!!!!
A sold out show? I was there too and although it was a good concert there was a very sparse crowd there, probably less than 2000 people. Maybe you're confusing it with the Aerosmith/Guns N Roses show which still holds the Show Me Center concert attendance record. Guns N Roses was much better with Alice than when they opened for Aerosmith. For some reason they were really off that night and didn't even get enough response for an encore.
The church groups picketing Alice's shows during this time period didn't realize they were protesting one of their own. In real life Vincent Fernier (Alice's real name) is a very straight laced, church going family man who does a lot of good work in the Denver community where he lives. Alice is merely a character he uses to illustrate what happens to you when you succumb to the dark urges of humanity. If you've ever seen him live you'll notice that nothing good ever happens to Alice and at the end of every show he is punished for his mis-deeds. Some folks just don't get what he's tying to say.
Data48- You might be right. I maybe mixing memories of the two shows. I got to meet GNR when they came here with Aerosmith. Got my photo with Duff at The Holiday Inn.
Glock- I remember the protesters also. I had front row center seats, and at one point Alice cuts off the head of this huge monster. And it sprays blood all over the first three rows. Being that I was in the middle I got a double dose of spray as the creature moved from side to side. Needless to say I was covered in red monster blood. I looked like ***** Spacek in Carrie. As I was leaveing the venue a chuchie runs up to me frearing that I has somehow been beatin up at the show. He says "DO I need to call a ambulance?" I lauigh and say "No way, This rocks!" I then explane to him what had taken place during the show. and he just looks at me with this blank look, amazed and bewildered, he then asks me "...and you think this is good?" I yell back "Hell yes man! I've just been baptized in blood by Alice Cooper!"
Alice actually lives here, in Arizona. I have been to his restaurant in downtown by the ballpark a few times; it is awesome!! Tons of rock memorabilia and fantastic food and tunes. He is a huge Diamondbacks fan and hosts a golf tourney every year.
If you haven't seen (and you only would if you live in AZ) his commercial for the DMV, you have to look it up on YouTube. He rocks 93.3 (one of our rock stations here) every night with his show--very funny stuff with awesome music.
You are absolutely right Teresa. I don't know why I typed Denver when I meant Phoenix. Thanks for setting me straight!
BTW Timexx, congrats on the big gig down in Texas. Although I'm not a big 80's "Hair Band" fan, I'm from the 70's "Arena Rock" era, I hope you have a great time and do Missouri proud!
Thanks! We cant wait!
Congrats and good luck on the Gig!! Take plenty of sun screen and water when you come to Texas. It is hotter than HADES down here!!!
