Jackson School Board raises meal prices

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

The Jackson School Board approved a $47.5 million budget Tuesday for the next school year, acknowledging pressure from increases in fuel, utility, food and health costs. To cover some of the expense, the board voted to raise breakfast and lunch prices.

Breakfast will increase from $1 to $1.50 for elementary students and from $1.25 to $1.75 for secondary students. Lunch prices will increase from $1.75 to $2.25 for elementary students and $2 to $2.50 for secondary students. Reduced-price breakfast and lunch will remain the same, at 30 cents and 40 cents, respectively.

The district plans to spend $42.25 million next year, leaving a fund balance of $5.27 million at the end of the fiscal year. The estimated expenditures are $2.09 million over last year.
