KENNETT, Mo. -- A Kennett home was destroyed due to a fire Wednesday night that had local firemen working for nearly three hours in an attempt to extinguish the heavy flames and clear the scene.
According to Kennett Fire Marshall Scott Tutor, at approximately 12:22 a.m. Thursday, members of the Kennett Fire Department responded to a residence at 2400 State Route EE, owned by Jim Moody, which was reported to be on fire.
When members of the fire department arrived at the residence they immediately noticed heavy smoke and high flames rising from the rear portion of the structure, according to Tutor.
After working to extinguish the flames, firemen discovered that the fire started around the back porch area of the home, but were unable to determine an exact cause.
Tutor said although the structure is still standing, it will be listed as a total loss.
Fortunately, Moody and his family were not in the residence at the time of the incident, as they were reportedly out of town.
