WINFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A massive levee breach forces more evacuations, this time in Winfield, Mo.
The breach happened late last night just east of Winfield, sending water flowing toward the city's secondary levee. KSDK-TV reports two homes were ripped from their foundations and could be seen floating in the floodwaters.
Authorities say more than 35,000 acres have flooded due to the levee break. About 60 homes east of Route 79 are in danger of flooding. Residents were told to go to a shelter at the high school if they didn't have anywhere else to go.
Meanwhile, volunteers continue sandbagging efforts along the secondary levee.
Winfield is about 50 miles north of St. Louis.
