Letter to the Editor

Heritage of Christians in this country has had big influence

To the editor:

Separation of church and state came from the fact that the Roman empire continued to swallow up different religions and was tolerant of all forms.

Thus, the reason Pilgrims came to America. They left because they felt the need to worship God freely, without Roman intervention and pagan beliefs being imposed on their own. The Catholic church became the official religion of Rome and began to include many forms of pagan rituals and other forms of religion.

For those who continue to tell me that the majority of our Founding Fathers were Deists, you are an example of the fallout from slowly pulling God out of or history taught in schools. Daniel Webster wrote the dictionary, and nearly every word had some connection to the Bible. George Washington Carver took only his Bible into his workshop and prayed for God to lead his hand. Martin Luther left the Catholic Church because of the fingers of politics holding back the individual believer.

If you are going to try to preach tolerance and inclusion of all people and faith, stop dishonoring the heritage of Christians in this country and the morals that formed it. If not for the example of Christ on the cross and the followers thereafter, you and I would not know of the freedom in America.
