ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Alan Keyes, the conservative Maryland political commentator whom Illinois Republicans turned to after weeks of searching for a replacement Senate candidate, accepted the challenge Sunday of running against a rising Democratic star who has grown only more formidable as the state GOP has been mired in scandal and disarray.
