Cape councilwoman appointed to council on aging

Cape Girardeau City Councilwoman Loretta Schneider was appointed Wednesday to the Governor's Council on Aging by Gov. Matt Blunt. The advisory council is a 12-member board assigned to the Missouri Division of Aging. The board has four main with responsibility for advising the governor on the impact state decisions have on the independence and dignity of senior citizens, advising the Department of Health and Senior Services and the Division of Aging on the administration of programs for senior citizens, encouraging the coordination of and discouraging the duplication of efforts for seniors and serving on committees to assist in the promotion and operation of the Missouri State Senior Games. Schneider, 71, is a retired English teacher. Her appointment is for a term that will end Sept. 17, 2009.
