Betty Jo Werner Metcalfe, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 2, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Edward and Rosa Bingenheimer Haman. She and Alvin Werner were married Nov. 4, 1950, in Cape Girardeau. He died Dec. 15, 1987. Then she married Donald Metcalfe on March 19, 1994, in Cape Girardeau. He died April 4, 2005.
Metcalfe was an operator 20 years with Southwestern Bell. She was involved in the family business of Werner's Market, Shopper's Big Star Market and Holiday Happenings.
She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, was a deaconess and was involved in church activities. She was a member of Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, and member of Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include a son, Ricky Werner of Cape Girardeau; three stepsons, Robert and Ronald Werner and David Metcalfe, all of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Mary Lou Weygant of Lake Placid, Fla.; five grandchildren, Randall Werner, Debbie Bassett, Kimberly Miles, Craig Miles and Tracy Werner; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
