Breakdown brings out hospitality

To the editor:

While on the road, the motor home I was driving to Alabama decided it wanted to get a new water pump in Cape Girardeau. This could not have happened in a friendlier, more hospitable place. AAA Motor Club contacted Sperling's Garage and Wrecker Service, which arrived within 20 minutes and towed the RV to the garage. Gary, Sherry, John, John, Chris and the rest of the employees were quite accommodating and helpful. They provided an electrical hookup so I could run the air conditioner on the motor home, let me use their computer to check my e-mail, included me in the lunch order and even called in their best mechanic early Tuesday morning to put on the new pump.

Although I never made it to Alabama, I did make it home safely and am very thankful to Sperling's for the fine work and hospitality.

I also want to thank the two women at Marcy's Planet Shoes who allowed me use their phone and wait in the nice, cool store until the Sperling's truck arrived.

This was my first time in your fine city. My misfortune with the motor home couldn't have happened in a better place. Thank you all very much.
