University tuition

Southeast Missouri State University provided information last week that showed its tuition is rising faster than most other public universities in the state, but the university still charges the lowest tuition of all the state's public schools at $208.50 per credit hour, or about $2,500 per semester for the typical student.

University leaders have done a good job at keeping tuition competitive. The latest increase of 4.1 percent was maximum amount allowed by law.

University officials must always weigh the quality of education -- and the ability to hire and retain good instructors, improve academics and maintain the campus -- while also keeping in mind the cost to the students, many of whom come from hard-working families in Southeast Missouri.

History has shown that Southeast has been able to be competitive on both fronts. We hope and expect that will continue.

The university didn't weigh anything. They raised tuition as much as they could legally raise it.

AGREED. The university gives a low grade dog food education. At no time is a student's well being or reality/thought to right and wrong even considered.

The university employees a lot of good people. Its only saving grace. Orginized crime has nothing on "semo"!

My son had a scholarship offer from SEMO for engineering and they offered him 1,000.00

MST (formerly known as UM of Rolla) offered him a 4,000 yearly scholarship and their tuition cost is only 245.60 a credit hour. For less than 40 a hour more he can get schooling from the best. He will be better trained and make more money and he will know what he is doing when he graduates.

Also he will be going to a smaller school with more 1 on 1 with his teachers. They also will not make him take courses he does not need like history or english.

He has to take only physics, engineering, math and depending on his AP test chemistry courses.

SEMO needs to rethink hows they spend money if they want people to attend there.
